Galatasaray are famous for their 'Welcome to Hell' banners. Their bitter rivalry with English fans went a step too far before the 2000 UEFA Cup Semi-Final against Leeds United. Two unarmed Leeds fans were brutally stabbed to death in the centre of Istanbul.

Violence also flared between Galatasaray and Arsenal fans before the final in Copenhagen and there has been no love lost between England and Turkey in both domestic team and international team meetings since.
