Turkey may be part of the EU but its prisons are horrific. Diyarbakir is easily the worst as proven in 1996 when the guards attacked inmates, injuring 23 and killing 10 more.

Prisoners have no rights whatsoever here and so these guards may, and do, act as if they are above the law. This becomes especially chilling once you know that children are locked up here too.
