As Sir David Richards is named as the next head of the British Army take a look at the world's super soldiers, many of whom will fall under his command.
First and foremost are the renowned SAS. Formed in 1941 to conduct raids behind enemy lines in North Africa. They quickly became the principal special forces organisation in the British Army.
They shot to fame in 1980 when they performed the infamous Operation Nimrod. In broad daylight, in the centre of London and in front of the world's media a team of SAS elite smashed the notorious terrorist siege.
