Manneken Pis
Where: Brussels, Belgium
Erected: 1619
The Manneken Pis is one of those monuments that triggers instant school-age giggles and reinforces Belgium's reputation as a bit of a weird country. It is the handiwork of sculptor Jerome Duquesnoy and was completed in 1619.
According to legend, the boy is urinating to extinguish a fuse that risked setting off a pile of explosives that threatened to destroy Brussels.
