Boll Weevil
Where: Enterprise, Alabama, US
Erected: 1919
The Boll Weevil is famous for one bizarre reason: it's the only monument in the world that commemorates an agricultural pest. It celebrates the beetle that ravaged the area's cotton crop in the early 20th century.
By 1915, the problem was so severe that farmers started switching from cotton to peanuts - thus reviving the town's economic fortunes. Now that is nuts!
