Artist David Cerny managed to bag 350,000 for his controversial input for a monument to represent the 27 European Union nations for its headquarters in Brussels.

If this wasn't enough to make EU bosses grimace, Cerny decided not to commission a variety of other artists as originally agreed but decided to pocket the cash himself and knock out his own sculpture!

The Czech sculptor provoked even more controversy when he represented each of 27 nations with an offensive stereotype. Examples include a Dracula theme park for Romania while France was a map with "Strike" written in red, Germany was a motorway map resembling a Nazi swastika and Bulgaria resembled a toilet. Cerny has been forced to pay the money back.
