After days of confusion and candid conversation at Newcastle, the famed footballer come manager, Kevin Keegan resigned September 4. This left Toon fans furious, voicing their intention to boycott the club's next match.

Keegan had accused owner Mike Ashley and football director Dennis Wise of stopping him from running the club and attempting to sell key players including Michael Owen behind his back.
