'Borat' - Best Adapted Screenplay (2007)
Striking another odd blow to the usually overlooked mainstream comedy genre, Sacha Baron Cohen's satire, which regularly pokes fun at Americans, was nominated for the highest film accolade in the USA.
To make it worse, the lucky host would've had to have announced the film's full title 'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan' had it won.
But a neglected genre and an epic name was the least of its controversies - many claim that there wasn't a full script to begin with. Judging by the genuine shock and embarrassment portrayed by Borat's victims onscreen, the majority of the film was improvised on the spot.
