'Beauty and the Beast' - Best Picture (1992)
Back in the early 90s, the Best Animated Feature category simply didn't exist and the latest Disney charmer was winning rave reviews. It got pushed for consideration for the title prize, and shocked filmgoers but securing a nod.
However, in doing so the family film waltzed over tradition and booted out the other apparent front runners including 'Thelma & Louise', 'The Fisher King', 'Cape Fear' and 'Barton Fink'.
It wasn't the only controversy that year - 'Silence of the Lambs' bagged an overboard Anthony Hopkins a Best Actor gong despite appearing for less than 20 minutes in the two hour film - he spent the majority of his screen time slurping at Jodie Foster.
