Before the jungle, David Gest was best known for having once been married to Liza Minnelli and looking a little odd. The tabloids decided he wasn't a "proper" celebrity and began a campaign to have him thrown off the show before it had even started.

David's seemingly never-ending supply of bizarre stories became even more hilarious when fellow campers such as Jan Leeming and Dean Gaffney actually believed him. Remember these? He had a maid called Vaginica Seaman, that he'd once been lost in the Grand Canyon for a week and his cousin died because he didn't eat fruit for seven days.

He didn't win the show, but his new-found popularity saw him land his own reality series and a judge's slot on 'Grease Is The Word'. Not bad for someone who's not a "proper" celebrity!
