Anyone who describes themselves as "a bit of a maverick" is generally perceived as a bit of a loser. Speaking over everyone else and bragging about his "successful business empire" made him unbearable.

As the series continued, it became clear that he didn't take himself seriously. His wittiness and spot-on evaluations of the other candidates had viewers laughing with him, not at him. But the nail on the head was when he said he would rather be "stabbed in the eye with a rusty screwdriver" than go on holiday with another contestant.
