Celebrity Big Brother chiefs have been forced to cancel over 20,000 votes after viewers were given the wrong information.

At the end of the final nominations show, an on-screen message incorrectly told fans to call a number 'to save' Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty (pictured).

But viewers were left confused as the voice-over correctly said to call the number 'to evict' the star and all the other nominees had the phrase 'to evict' on screen.

Channel 4 have said that refunds would be given to everyone who had voted already for the eviction.

A spokesman for the programme's maker Endemol said: "This was a genuine mistake. We have consulted with our independent adjudicator before making this decision."
