The soap rumour mill has churned out a real corker this week, as it has emerged that Alfie Moon may kill himself.

The cheeky chatterbox Cockney, played by Shane Richie, has always seemed unrealistically optimistic about his miserable life.

Shane is set to leave EastEnders at Christmas and one of the endings that the soap's bosses have tabled ends with Alfie's suicide.

An Albert Square mole told the Daily Star: "We've written several different endings so nobody will know which is the real one until the last minute.

"They vary from quite upbeat ones to much sadder ones - and the most tragic is the one where Alfie kills himself.

"It's absolutely heart-wrenching and it will be a real tearjerker if it's shown."

Perhaps it's the recent trauma of having to choose between the two unsavoury Slater sisters that has pushed Alfie to the edge.
