Following a long-running storyline, BBC soap EastEnders finally revealed who killed Lucy Beale – it was no other than Lucy’s young brother Bobby.
The 11-year-old was found by his stepmother, Jane Beale, clutching what appeared to be the weapon used. The episode, which attracted more than 10 million viewers, Bobby was seen telling Jane: "Whatever she says, she started it.
"She made everyone unhappy."
Another plot twist saw the return of Ian’s mum Kathy Beale, who had been thought to be dead for more than a decade after a car crash in South Africa.
Several EastEnders fans definitely did not see that plot coming. Some took to Twitter to share their shock and confusion.
Fan Jess Euston wrote: "Well the biggest shock in Eastenders was Cathy Beale being alive from the dead & returning! HI CATHY."
Executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Jones promised her return marked the start of "one of the most earth-shattering storylines the soap has ever seen".
"Kathy is part of EastEnders history, mother to Ian and Ben and one of the most important and iconic television characters on British television," he said.
"Six months ago, we set ourselves the challenge of bringing Kathy back to the Square in a credible way. And I believe we have succeeded."
