The Spider-Man franchise could be set to draw to an untimely close after the third instalment.
Following the runaway success of Spider-Man 2, rumours indicated that pre-production had already begun on Spider-Mans 4, 5 and 6 have been circulating with the force of a hurricane.
But in an interview with entertainment website Latino Review, franchise supremo Sam Raimi hinted Spider-Man 3 will be the last in the web-slinging, money-spinning series due to instructions from Sony head man Amy Pascal.
"I'd like to keep directing Spider-Man movies but I think she's [Pascal] thinking that the audience feels they want to see one more and no more," he told the publication.
"They want to have a proper ending to the story now. So I think maybe she's right, and so I'm approaching it under her guidance and that's how I'm trying to think of this film - as the end."
