Gary Kirsten has announced that he will end his ten-year spell in international cricket at the end of the current tour of New Zealand.

The veteran South African batsman will bring his career to a close with more than 100 Test caps under his belt, and having earned himself a place in national history.

Kirsten, 34, hit his 21st Test hundred during the first Test against New Zealand over the weekend, and has already earned himself a position among the world's top 15 century makers.

He has two Tests left before hanging up his Proteas pads for the final time, one in Auckland between March 18th and 22nd, and a final appearance in Wellington, beginning on March 26th.

The South African has already ensured he will remain his country's most prolific batsman for some time to come, having scored 7,210 runs to earn an impressive average of 45.92.

"I want to wish the side all the best in the future and hope that they will continue to go from strength to strength," Kirsten said after announcing his decision.

"I was lucky enough to play with and against some wonderful cricketers and I take many great memories with me."

The series between the Kiwis and Proteas remains delicately poised after the first Test ended in a draw in Hamilton.
