Pete Waterman is to leave "Pop Idol" for a year, according to The Sun.
Waterman, 57, walked off the set of the TV talent contest when Michelle McManus triumphed in its second UK series - he said she was "rubbish".
"I love Pop Idol, don't get me wrong, but I thought the second one wasn't as good as the first," said Waterman.
The multi-millionaire record producer said he wanted to spend more time at home.
"I've had enough. I've done three years of solid TV work. I only went home five times last year - I just want a break."
ITV has said it has no current plans for a third series.
