Comedy superstar Tim Minchin is back on the road with his biggest live show
ever. As well as his trademark songs and a lot of new material, this time Tim's
back with a little something extra - a 55-piece orchestra.
While not being the first comic to combine laughs with a big orchestral assemblance, he's certainly proved to be the best; choosing let them do what they do best, complimenting and adding bit of extra 'oomph' to his already effective numbers.
Fans will get experience well-known songs such as You Grew on Me and Prejudice with an orchestral backing that is spectacular, with the two mediums complimenting each other wonderfully.
His actual stand-up between songs is textbook Minchin, which adds to the charm of the show and he never lets the grand setting affect him, even incorporating it into one of his songs:
"Nothing ruins comedy like arenas, but your enjoyment isnÂ’t as important as my self-esteem."
There does seem to be quite an obvious religious tone to the show, with Minchin - who is openly Atheist in his beliefs - singing about condemning the Pope, while talking rather convincingly about why any book should be sacred.
Overall, Tim's latest comedic offering is better than originally anticipated and with a few nice bonus features included on the DVD, it's highly recommended.
Tim Minchin and The Heritage Orchestra is out on DVD now.
