The Chevrolet Spark EV is quite impressive for an EV of this size. It accelerates from 0 to 60mph in just 7.6 seconds with 90mph being its maximum speed. The 21kwh Nano-phosphate Li-ion battery located on the floor, fore and aft of the rear axle is liquid cooled and heated. It takes less the battery seven hours to charge fully after which it can cover a range of about 82 miles.
It can be charged with a level 2 240v AC power or a DC fast charger which would be available on the Spark EV later this year. Charging the battery with this DC power would take about 20 minutes to reach 80per cent. Chevrolet has done well to ensure that this vehicle weighs just 2,967lbs which is just okay for an electric car.
Its centre of gravity is low and its weight distribution moderate making the Spark EV fun to drive. Its power is supplied by a 140HP permanent magnetic drive motor which generates about 400ft/lb. of torque and is transferred to the front wheels with a single speed gear box.
