Monty Python stars in legal battle over hit musical Spamalot

Monty Python stars are due in High Court due to dispute over musical Spamalot.

Mark Forstater, the producer of the classic film Monty Python and The Holy Grail is seeking the right to royalties from hit musical 'Spamalot', a spin-off from the Grail film.

 

Three of the six Pythons – Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and Eric Idle, are expected to appear in High Court to give evidence during a five-day legal action.

The other two Pythons, Terry Gilliam and John Cleese, are not expected to give evidence as they are reportedly abroad.

 

The sixth Python, Graham Chapman, died in 1989.

Mr Forstater, who was said to be bankrupt in June, is suing the Pythons due to difficult financial circumstances.

 

His lawyer said that he is entitled to royalties amounting to hundreds of thousand of pounds.

 

The lawyer added: the Pythons were "unjustifiably attempting to secure more money from Spamalot at the expense of Mr Forstater and his company".
