Michael Parkinson has prostate cancer

Sir Michael Parkinson revealed that he is suffering from prostate cancer and that he is getting treatment for it.

Sir Michael Parkinson has revealed that he has prostate cancer and has confirmed he is undergoing radiotherapy. Due to early detection of the disease, the 78-year-old was assured by his doctor that he had nothing to worry about.

He said: “I had to start calling a few of my social engagements to tell them I couldn't do it - what do you say to them?

"When you are told you have something like cancer, it is a shock."
Adding: "But the cancer specialist said: 'I will assure you, you will not die of this.'

"I am concerned about it, of course, but I am not frightened of it."
Sir Michael, who describes his prostate cancer as a “distraction”, was diagnosed in May.

It has been reported that, because of the cancer Sir Michael said he begun to understand the work done by people who are treating the disease and that he was ‘very grateful’.

Sir Michael also said: "I shall be around for a while yet, to the delight of my friends and the dismay of my enemies."

Prostate cancer is the number one type of cancer to affect men in the United Kingdom. Each year, more than 40,000 men in the country get diagnosed with the disease.

 

Symptoms include pain during sex, frequent trips to the toilet, and reduced flow of urine.
