What is Massage Therapy
Shiatsu is a form of massage, originating in Japan that seeks to balance our vital life-force to promote healing and well-being. Shiatsu literally means 'finger pressure' and it works on the same ancient principles of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.
Chinese Taoist monks developed these healing principles over 5000 years ago. These principles were introduced to Japan about 1000 years ago and they added Chinese acupuncture points to their own system of massage, developing Shiatsu.
How does it work?
Shiatsu is based on the same principles of Acupuncture but without the needles, concentrating on meridians or energy lines, which may become disturbed when we are unwell. Pressure is applied over areas of the body and to precise points. Gentle manipulation and stretch techniques may also be used to help balance the energy in the body and release blockages.
Shiatsu can rebalance the bodies' energies, regulate the function of the organs, stimulate circulation and the flow of lymphatic fluid, helping to release toxins and tension from the muscles and stimulate the hormone system. By releasing the bodies' natural energy flow, our self-healing process can take place.
Shiatsu is particularly effective in treating these illnesses:
A Shiatsu treatment will last up to 1 hour and it is advised not to eat anything prior to your appointment. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing and calming therapy that can detect energy imbalances before there are any symptoms and is therefore widely used as a preventative therapy.
