Geri Halliwell burst into tears while promoting her new single - after losing her 'security' doll.

The former Spice Girl, who has notoriously suffered self-esteem problems, reportedly carries the toy with her everywhere she goes to boost her confidence.

A television insider said the star was in a recording studio promoting her "Desire" single when she started sobbing uncontrollably.

Members of her entourage began searching frantically for the doll - which Geri has named Kate - while the star looked on "very distressed".

They eventually found a cleaner had given the lost toy to a child to play with.

Geri once confessed: "Kate is a self-esteem doll-whenever I have doubts or anything I look at the doll. It represents a time when things were different and I revert to being an eight-year-old again."

The source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper : "She got so upset when she couldn't find her. The tears started to flow and everyone was rushing around. It was a massive relief for her when she got the doll back."

This isn't the first time Geri has thrown her toys out of the pram in public.

Last year, she made such a fuss on Top of the Pops that filming had to stop until her lost doll turned up.
