The Scottish actor admitted that he would have been keen to take over from David Tennant saying: "I've been tipped as the new Doctor for the past couple of years. However, no-one from the BBC has actually approached me and I never wanted to talk about it because you cannot talk about another actor's part. I would treat playing the Doctor with respect, but I would have to be approached first."
