Another problem with horizontal farming is the crops' exposure to the harsh elements. Floods, hurricanes and typhoons destroy crops year after year – urban farming would cut that down significantly.

They also benefit the unstable environment in a positive way by adding energy back to the grid via methane generation from composting the non-edible parts of plants and animals.
