The band's former home was founded from humble beginnings in 1887 as the Gramophone Company. It owns the back catalogue of many of pop legends and had a string of world famous artists signed to them.
However in the age of iTunes and illegal downloads EMIs future looks bleak and have lost artists such as the Stones, Sir Paul McCartney and Radiohead as well as axing over 2,000 staff.
Also Robbie Williams, one of their star performers, went on strike in protest in the label's purchase by private equity firm Terra Firma
