Shaping the sound of music - 1967
The Beatles ninth official album release, 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' has been credited as the most important rock & roll album ever made. It sold a staggering a quarter of a million copies in Britain in its first week of release. It has also been voted the greatest album of all time by Rolling Stone in 2003.
Its psychedelic sound had an immediate impact on the world. The music documents The Beatles at the very height of their influence and Lennon knew it saying in a 1970 interview: "It was a peak, Paul and I definitely were working together." (Describing the album and his collaborative relationship with McCartney).
