After decades of watching over the patients and staff alike, the ward sister is being wiped out in favour of more politically correct term 'ward manager' to equally reflect men and women in the role.
Hospitals across the UK have already abolished the gender specific title, as more men (known as charge nurses) take on the duties of taking care of patients and acting as a role model to the other nursing staff.
