Side effects such as erratic and unpredictable behaviour sometimes known as 'whisky madness' are often the result of drinking it neat. Whisky or scotch is absorbed into the blood at a very fast rate.
To slow down absorbtion, take your dram diluted or with a calorie rich ingredient like cream (as Irish coffee or Baileys). Researchers found that bourbon whisky drinkers are twice as likely to get a hangover than those drinking the same amount of vodka.
Whisky does have its merits though, single malt tipples have been found to contain high levels of ellagic acid, which could help kill off cancer cells while not harming the other healthy cells.
