The former owner of JJB and ex-footballer Dave Whelan has been in charge of Wigan Athletic for the past 15 years. Throughout his spell as owner, Whelan has seen his club promoted to the Premier League where they have had a continued run, despite some tough relegation battles in recent years.

Three years ago, he had to sell the brand JJB due to continuing debts, but bought DW Sports and thereafter WiganÂ’s stadium became the DW Stadium.
