On average Britons knock back 6.3 units of alcohol on a night out. They binge drink more than any other Western European nation.

In 2006 Labour party chairman Hazel Blears said that Britons "want to push the limits of danger".

Second worst are the Germans who drink 5.5 units of alcohol per night and third are the Spanish who drink 5.3 units per night.
