Beaten to poll position was the 1997 film 'The Full Monty'. The comedy about a group of unemployed steel workers who become strippers won an abundunce of awards to add to its status.

It won the Academy Award for Original Music Score for Anne Dudley, and was nominated for Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Original Screenplay. It also won the BAFTA Award for Best Film.
