Hidden issue - Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis reduces bone density, leading to hip, spine and wrist fractures and one in two women will suffer from it. It's not only older women who are affected, women with eating disorders such as anorexia or yo-yo dieters are also at risk because their bodies haven't built up the necessary calcium stores for strong bones.
What can you do?Weight-bearing exercises like walking, jogging, and tennis may prevent or slow osteoporosis. Reduce salt (it's linked to weaker bones) and increase calcium by eating more dairy, dried apricots, nuts and seeds, spinach and tinned salmon.
