Michael Douglas turned it down, Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise and Daniel Day-Lewis all did the same, then Matthew Modine alongside co-star Geena Davis foolishly took up the lead parts. Surprisingly, moviegoers were less than excited by the pirate movie and it bankrupted Carolco studios, destroyed the reputation of Geena Davis and caused Matthew Modine to think long and hard about his career choices.
