The Rite has been adapted from Matt BaglioÂ’s novel, The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist. The Rite is about an American seminary student, who decides to regain his faith in Christianity by taking an exorcism course in Italy.

The book is supposedly based on real events that happened to Father Gary Thomas. Unfortunately, the film did not receive good reviews, scoring a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 19% (critics) and 43% (audience)
