The most memorable moments of this year were all unfortunately not the most pleasant for sports fans. Australia reclaimed the Ashes, Liverpool lost in the Champions League final 2-1 to Milan, Jose Mourinho left Chelsea and Tim Henman retired from tennis.

A glimmer of hope was given in rugby as England made it to the World Cup finals in Paris, but lost to South Africa.
