David Cameron: Improving nursing care is a top priority

The prime minister admits that although UK has high standards of nursing care, the country got a problem in some places.

Following the Mid-Staffordshire scandal, where patients were not treated properly, Prime Minister David Cameron is convinced that improvements are needed in the field of health services.

In line with this, ministers have recently announced plans of removing untrained health assistants from hospitals. Approximately 50,000 unregulated assistants are expected to be affected of this change. Currently, only doctors and nurses are subject to official controls.

Mr. Cameron said: “We know what an incredible job nurses do – and how much we ask of them. So we are giving nurses more support to deliver these changes but also help for all NHS staff, health care assistants and carers. Good quality care must be everyone’s business.”

One of the initiatives on hospital is “friend and families test” from patients. With this, patients are asked if they are happy with the services and treatment they received from the hospital.

They’ll also be asked if they’ll recommend the hospital to other people. The results will be used to rank the hospitals.
