Star Wars creator George Lucas engaged to long-time girlfriend

George Lucas and investment firm president, Mellody Hobson are engaged as confirmed by a spokesman for Lucasfilm Ltd.

After 7 years of dating, George Lucas and long-time girlfriend, investment firm president, Mellody Hobsonare engaged. The happy news was confirmed by a spokesman for Lucasfilm Ltd.

George’s daughter Amanda took to Twitter to share the news. With a link of an online article about her father’s engagement, she tweeted: 'George Lucas, Mellody Hobson Engaged: "Star Wars’ Director, Businesswoman Set To Marry" Congratulations Dad & Mellody!:)'

This will be George’s second marriage whose union with film director Marcia Lucas ended in 1983 after 14 years of marriage. Aside from Amanda, 31, George also has two other children, Katie, 26, and Jett, 19. As for Mellody, this will be her first.

 

Last year, George Lucas made it to the headlines with his decision to sell Lucasfilm to Disney. In a statement, he said: 'For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next.

 

'It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of film makers.

 

'I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime.'
