Jim Carrey and former Playboy model Jenny McCarthy have split after five years together.

The 'Dumb and Dumber' actor, 48, and the 37-year-old model announced their break-up on their respective Twitter accounts last night.

Both parties insisted that the split was amicable and that they are hoping to remain friends and committed to Carrey's daughter.

Carrey wrote: “Jenny and I have just ended our 5yr relationship. I’m grateful 4 the many blessings we’ve shared and I wish her the very best! S’okay! ?;^> (sic)”.

Just seconds later, Jenny posted: “Im so grateful for the years Jim and I had together. I will stay committed to Jane [Jim's daughter] and will always keep Jim as a leading man in my heart.”

Jim’s representative Marleah Leslie confirmed, stating: “Jim and Jenny have recently decided to end their five year relationship.

“They are grateful for the many blessings they have shared and wish each other the very best.”

Just two months ago on Valentine's Day, Carrey hired a skywriter to pen a love note above the Los Angeles home he shared with Jenny.
