Micky Adams has resigned as manager of Leicester City.

Adams parts company with the club after his team made a disappointing start to the season.

Leicester have issued a statement describing the news as "very sad".

"Everyone connected with the club wanted Micky to stay and we did our utmost to try to persuade him to change his mind," chief executive Tim Davies said.

Adams' decision to go follows a tumultuous period for the club.

The club's relegation from the top flight last season followed a series of damaging off the field incidents, which included a number of players facing rape charges that were later dropped.

Despite surviving administration, Leicester have been forced to sell their best players, with Robbie Savage and Muzzy Izzet the latest to head back to the premiership.

Dave Bassett, Leicester's director of football, will take temporary charge of team affairs.
