There is confusion surrounding the fate of Corrie favourites Jack and Vera Duckworth.
Some reports are indicating that the veteran stars will win the lottery and retire to Spain, while other sources say that one or both will be killed-off.
The speculation started when Liz Dawn, 64, who plays Vera, hinted at her retirement at a charity dinner in Leeds.
"I've done enough. I'd like to walk off into the sunset with Monica the dog," the Sunday Mirror quoted her as saying.
But no one is sure what will happen to Jack.
According to the Sunday Mirror Jack and Vera "come as a pair" and he would share her fate. But the Sun quotes her as saying: "I'm afraid I will be leaving Jack behind with the dog."
And there is a similar muddle over how Vera (and possibly Jack) will be leaving the show.
Almost everyone agrees that her contract with the soap runs out in a few months, but how she will leave remains unclear.
One Street insider has told the Daily Star that Jack and Vera will win the lottery and "their exit as multi-millionaires would be one long party - and fans as well as fellow Street residents would be delighted with their good fortune".
This would leave the door open for one-off episodes following the fortunes of the famous couple.
But the Sun reports that it is only Vera that is on her way out and that she wants no possibility of return.
"I have had enough and I am tired. There are other things to life, like family," Dawn is reported to have said.
This leaves the Sun to conclude that her character will be killed off.
But the insider who spoke to the Daily Star thinks this is impossible.
"Viewers would not want anything bad to happen to Jack and Vera," the soap source explained.
