The judges and the audience were not the only ones who were shocked when Ella Henderson, one of the show’s favourite contestants, left the X Factor on Sunday night after getting the fewest public votes.
Rylan Clark, who survived another week, broke down in tears saying he felt guilty over Henderson’s exit.
The 24-year-old Essex boy appeared on ITV2 follow-up show The Xtra Factor, wept over the loss of his “little sister.” Talking to Caroline Flack, Rylan said: “Ella should be in the final. She's like a little sister to me.”
Rylan agreed with Caroline when asked if he felt it should have been him instead of her. He said: “One hundred per cent. I just feel so guilty. I can't thank people enough for voting for me, but Ella shouldn't have gone.”
Prior to taking to the stage on Sunday night’s result show, Rylan seemed to have accepted that he was going home. He tweeted: 2Here we go, it's been a pleasure xxxxxxx.”
Although Ella Henderson has graciously accepted her fate, the same cannot be said for her mentor Tulisa Contstavlos who said: “It's ridiculous, this situation, it's ridiculous, it's ridiculous.”
She added: “People thought she was safe. There was nothing wrong about her performance. This week was one of the best she's ever done.”
