World's Oldest Drug Trafficker

A 91-year-old man was charged with smuggling £1m of cocaine.

If convicted with smuggling £1m of cocaine, 91-year-old Victor Twartz, could be the world’s oldest drug trafficker.

 

However, his case has prompted police to warn travellers to be wary of becoming unwitting drugs mules.

 

 Twartz, a retired surgeon from Sydney, Australia, faces a possible life sentence if he is convicted of bringing 4.5 kilogrammes of cocaine from New Delhi, India to Sydney Airport. His luggage was searched at the airport where 27 packages of soap were discovered and tested positive for cocaine.

 

Australian Federal Police manager Wayne Buchhorn, said:  "People can expect they will be charged if they knowingly bring drugs into Australia, or are reckless or willfully blind to the fact that there could be narcotics concealed inside their luggage or items they are carrying.”
