One man who has been in hospital under arrest after being shot by police following the horrific killing of soldier Lee Rigby, appeared in court on Thursday, 30thMay, 2013.
Michael Adebowale, aged 22, arrived at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday morning after being charged with murdering Lee Rigby.
The Crown Prosecution Service announced the decision that Michael Adebowale was to be charged.
Head of the Crown Prosecution Service Special Crime and Counter-Terrorism Division Sue Hemming said: “Crown prosecutors have been working with the investigators of Counter Terrorism Command since the killing of Drummer Lee Rigby on 22 May.”
Adding: “Following the release of Michael Adebowale from hospital, we have authorised the police to charge him with the murder of Drummer Rigby.”
Ms. Hemming also stated that he ‘has a right to a fair trial’. This relates to his trial not being affected by reports. She said: “It is extremely important that nothing should be reported which could prejudice this trial.”
The Drummer, who was of the 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, was killed as a result of a horrific attack which took place in Woolwich, London, on Wednesday, 22nd May.
Many tributes gave been paid to Lee Rigby since he was tragically murdered.
It is understood that the second man who was shot by police following the attack in Woolwich, Michael Adebolajo, who is 28 years old, remains in hospital under arrest.
