The Women’s Super League began 23 March with previous two-time winning team Arsenal joining the mix again this year. This will be the team to upset for this year’s competition. Here is a list of the women’s teams that will be competing:
- Arsenal Ladies—WSL title Winners in 2012, Continental Cup Winners, WSL title Winners in 2011, FA Cup Winners, and Continental Cup Winners.
- Birmingham Ladies—WSL 2nd Place in 2012, FA Cup Winners, Continental Cup 2nd Place, WSL 2nd Place in 2011, and Continental Cup 2nd Place.
- Bristol Academy—Placed 4th in WSL in 2012, placed 5th in WSL for 2011, and FA Cup 2nd Place.
- Chelsea Ladies—6th Place for WSL in 2012, FA Cup 2nd Place, and 6th Place in WSL for 2011.
- Doncaster Rovers Belles—Placed 7th in WSL for 2012, and placed 7th in WSL for 2011 as well.
- Everton—Nabbed 3rd Place in WSL for 2012, and also placed 3rd in WSL for 2011.
- Lincoln—Placed 5th in WSL for the 2012 year, and placed 4th in WSL for the 2011 year for the Women’s Super League.
- Liverpool—Bottom ranking of the WSL for 2012, and also bottom ranking for the 2011 WSL, but the team has been revamped with new players.
It’s interesting to note that many of the teams consistently achieve the same rank in a variety of competitions. It’s safe to say that in terms of experience Birmingham Ladies is probably the best bet to go up against Arsenal Ladies this year, but the Liverpool revamped team is a veritable question mark. A great deal of their success will depend on how well they are able to play together as a newer team. Everton will also be one of the teams to watch since they previously placed third in the Women’s Super League competition.
