Rap super-star Kanye West has admitted that he has “contemplated suicide” in the past, but feels now that he must make a contribution to pop culture and art.
Speaking at the US premier of his new film, Runaway, he admitted that he has previously thought about taking his own life.
“There were times that I contemplated suicide, I will not give up on life again. There’s so many people that will never get the chance to have their voice heard. I do it for them."
He also added that he feels a responsibility to be a “soldier of culture”.
West is credited as the director of the 35-minute short film, which features nine new songs from the rapper. It will accompany his upcoming album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which is set for release on 22 November.
The mega star also revealed his new set of ‘teeth’ this week. He recently had his bottom row removed and replaced with diamonds because he “just thought diamonds were cooler”.
“It’s replaced my bottom row of teeth. There’s just certain stuff that rock stars are supposed to do”.
