Today, we celebrate Scrabble day.
The game was invented in 1938 by unemployed architect Alfred Mosher Butts from Poughkeepsie, New York, who was born on April 13, 1899. Originally called “Criss-Crosswords” the name of the game has been officially changed ten years after it was developed when the rights to the game were bought by James Brunot. It became an official hit by 1952 when the president of Macy’s department store in New York, Jack Straus, got hooked on the game on holiday.
Although the old board is no longer popular as before, millions of people still play the game online.
