Visual effects master Ray Harryhausen dies at 92

Ray Harryhausen worked on Clash of the Titans and Sinbad. He also influenced several directors which include Steven Spielberg and Nick Park.

Visual effects master Ray Harryhausen, who worked on memorable films like Clash of the Titans, Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts, has died at the age of 92. The sad news was confirmed by Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation in a statement.

Ray’s most memorable works include the animation of the seven skeletons in Jason and the Argonauts and the Medusa who turned men to stone in Titans.

As a visual effect master, Ray influenced top directors in the movie industry, which include Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Peter Jackson, and Nick Park.
Directors have paid tribute to Ray over social networking sites. Meanwhile, Nick Park, Aardman's Oscar-winning creator of Wallace and Gromit, told the BBC:

 

"I've followed the work of Ray Harryhausen all my life.

 

"He is one of the true greats, if not the true great of stop motion animation. A unique craftsman... He has been my mentor and inspiration since my earliest childhood memories."

 

"I loved every single frame of Ray Harryhausen's work," tweeted Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright. "He was the man who made me believe in monsters."
