Following the success of his first three movies, M Night Shyamalan's The Village comes to UK cinemas this weekend.
The film is packed with the kind of suspense that has made the director such as a revelation in Hollywood.
After featuring ghosts (The Sixth Sense), super-villains (Unbreakable) and aliens (Signs) in his last three projects, Shyamalan has lined up a similarly spine-chilling plot for The Village.
The movie sees Joaquin Phoenix, who also starred in Signs, play a bold young villager who decides to break an age-old pact with the mysterious creatures that inhabit the nearby woodland.
Phoenix's character decides to venture outside of the village in search of medical supplies, despite the wishes of the village elders who fear retributions from their creepy neighbours.
The Village also stars William Hurt, Adrien Brody and Sigourney Weaver.
