Actor Tom Cruise surprised the staff and customers of the Veer Dhara restaurant in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England when he arrived for curry last Tuesday. The actor was with a group of friends and had a low-key dinner in the eatery located in the quiet British market town.
The Hollywood millionaire ordered spicy lobster and tikka masala. He also warned staff that he was ‘really hungry’ and requested for his starter to be served together with his main course. He washed down his meal with sparkling water.
Unfortunately, the actor who was only carrying US dollars wasn’t able to pay for his £220 bill as the eatery didn’t accept his American Express card.
According to Darshit Hora, the restaurant manager, “It was a big shock for us when he walked in. He said we had been recommended to him, but he would not say by whom.”
“At the end of the meal he wanted to pay, but we could not accept American Express. He said his whole group only had dollars, and then a lady came forward and paid in £50 notes.”
Cruise made up for it by leaving a generous tip, although the owners of the restaurant were quite willing to give them their meal for free. Darshit said: “If they did not have any money, it would have been on the house.”
The actor, who recently divorced from ex-wife Katie Holmes, was in England filming his new sci-fi film All You Need Is Kill.
